MANILA, Philippines — One person was injured when a van fell on its side along the North Luzon Expressway early Wednesday, an NLEX traffic control officer said.

Lizelle Uy said the incident happened near the Balintawak Toll Plaza at Kilometer 12 around 6:30 a.m., involving a six-wheeler closed van (RLV 928) carrying dressed chicken products.

Uy quoted driver Rizaldy Miguel as saying that he suddenly lost control of the vehicle for some reason, which caused it to fall on its side.

Miguel sustained slight injuries, she added.

The flow of traffic was affected after the vehicle occupied the expressway’s third and fourth lanes.

A radio report said NLEX monitored a kilometer-long gridlock along the area, prompting other motorists to take the Mindanao exit instead.

Uy said the van was taken off the area before 8 a.m.
