THE Commission on Elections is calling in those who are qualified to vote in the barangay elections but are not yet registered to register on July 22 to 31.
The ten-day registration will be the final opportunity for qualified voters to enlist for October’s polls and the Comelec will not extend it, said Ferdinand Gujilde, provincial elections officer.
No PCOS
The barangay elections will not employ the automated system.
The voting and the canvassing of votes will be manual.
Gujilde admitted that there were suggestions to use the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines in the barangay elections, but this was not pursued as results of the elections do not need transmission.
“The PCOS is not that useful during barangay elections because there are no transmissions. The results are only in the barangay level,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gujilde took time yesterday to apologize to the teachers who served in the May 13 polls for some delays in the release of their compensation.
“It has always been delayed, but teachers have been known to work despite their frustrations,” Gujilde said.
