Fed up with what he said was the long wait, the counsel for alleged hazing victim Marvin Reglos has asked the court to resolve “all pending incidents” related to the case, including the issuance of warrants of arrest against the accused.
Dennis Pangan, lawyer for the Reglos family, said he filed the motion on Friday to resolve all pending incidents at the Antipolo Regional Trial Court Branch 97.
Pangan said he asked Judge Miguel Asuncion to issue within 30 days warrants of arrest against Kevin Mendoza, Norman Espinoza, Marco Antonio Ampil, Kelvin Brian Pe, Israel Velasco Cruz, Rejomel Christian Japa Adobo and Margrien Archenar Gregaña.
The seven were among those charged with the death of Reglos, a San Beda law student, who reportedly died of injuries sustained during the Feb. 19, 2012, initiation rites of the Lambda Rho Beta fraternity.
Of those charged, only Bojhee Yap and Eric Castillo were arrested. But Asuncion allowed them to post bail in March, citing the absence of evidence that “proves or tends to prove how (Reglos) died.”
The court had said the warrants against Mendoza, Espinoza, Ampil, Pe, Cruz, Adobo and Gregaña could not yet be issued because he was waiting for the Department of Justice to act on a petition for review filed by one of the accused on Aug. 6, 2012.
“But under the rules, (the pending motion in the DOJ) is not a basis for not issuing the warrants of arrest (against the seven),” Pangan said, adding that he was hoping the warrants would be released before the next hearing on Aug. 16.
