Senior Inspector Edgardo Nepay of Navotas police station identified the wounded cops as Inspector Dave Garcia, 36; and Inspector Elgie Jacobe, 35— both presently undergoing Police Officers Basic Course at Camp Nakar in Lucena City.
Nepay said the victims were riding a black Kawasaki Fury motorcycle, on their way to pick-up crabs at the house of Police Officer 2 Virgillo Marinduqe’s house located at Phase 1, Barangay (village) NBBS in Navotas City, when two still unidentified suspects appeared from behind and opened fire at them in front of a bank at H. Lopez around 1:20 p.m. Sunday.
The suspects were both wearing black jackets and helmets.
As a result, Garcia was hit at his left underarm and right forearm, while Jacobe was hit by a bullet at the back of his shoulder that exited at the left side of his chest.
Garcia, despite his wounds, managed to bring himself at the Tondo Medical Center, while Jacobe was rushed by concerned citizens to the same hospital.
The suspects drove off towards C-3 road, Nepay said, adding that the motive behind the attack remained unclear.
The case was placed for further investigation.
