MANILA, Philippines — The confirmation hearing of 131 military officers at the powerful Commission on Appointments had been stalled allegedly because of disagreements between two congressmen.

Witnesses said Paranaque Representative Roilo Golez and Nueva Ecija Representative Rodolfo Antonino engaged in a verbal tussle even before the Commission’s committee on national defense could start its proceedings.

The committee was scheduled to meet at 10:00 am on Wednesday but it only started after one and a half hours.

Members of the committee first held a close-door meeting in another room before it formally opened the hearing.
