Gwen visits tornado victims
GOV. Gwendolyn Garcia personally handed over relief goods to the victims of last Tuesday’s tornado that hit sitio Libo, barangay Mojon, Talisay City yesterday.
Boxes of food, school supply kits, blankets and noodles from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) were distributed to calamity victims.
The notebooks feature pictures of the governor’s and other Capitol officials while the school bags bearing the governor’s name.
In her short speech, Garcia said she will continue to go around the province, her trademark during her nine years as governor.
“Gisugdan ko ang akong termino sa paghatag sa akong kamot, ako sad kini tapuson sa pagtabang kaninyo [I started my term by offering my hand, I will also finish it by helping all of you],” said Garcia.
Outgoing Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez and Mojon barangay captain Dario were also present in the relief effort that ended after an hour.
Article continues after this advertisementMarivic Garces, head of the PSWDO, said eight affected families in Talisay City will receive financial assistance from their local government officials, but construction materials will soon be distributed by their office is done with their assessment.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, Neil Sanchez, head of the PDRRMC, called on local government units to conduct typhoon drills in schools and barangays.
