Three helmet-less motorcycle riders whom the police tried to accost were killed when they opened fire on the law enforcers at a checkpoint in Quezon City Friday morning.
The three figured in a shootout with members of the Quezon City Police District’s Public Safety Battalion on Mindanao Avenue in Barangay (village) Greater Lagro at 1:41 a.m.
Case investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Cristituto Zaldarriaga said one of the slain men was identified through a driver’s license as Rey Ebondas while another carried a community tax certificate under the name of Adan Surio.
The third man who remained unidentified was described as between 30 and 35 years old, 5’3” in height, with fair skin and of medium build. He was dressed in a black shirt, brown shorts and slippers.
Found in the slain men’s possession were a hand grenade, two .38-cal. revolvers and a .45-cal. pistol.
The police team led by Senior Inspector Alejandro Pagar had set up a checkpoint at the corner of Mindanao Avenue and Regalado Street in response to reported robbery cases in the area.
When they spotted three helmet-less men on two motorcycles which did not have license plates, they flagged down the drivers.
The riders, however, fired on the policemen, leading to a firefight.
