‘Emong’ out, ‘Fabian’ in
AS storm “Emong” left the Philippine territory yesterday morning, the low-pressure area being monitored by the state weather bureau has intensified into a tropical depression and is named “Fabian.”
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said midday Thursday that “Fabian” has no direct effect to any part of the country, but will whip up the southwest monsoon which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over the western section of Luzon, particularly Palawan.
Oscar Tabada, Pagasa – Mactan chief told Cebu Daily News that it won’t affect Cebu since the center of the tropical depression is in the northwestern part of the country.
The rest of the Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail throughout the archipelago and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
“Fabian” was last observed 290 kilometers West of Iba, Zambales, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center.
It was moving north northwest at 11 kph.
On Saturday, Fabian is forecast to be 410 kilometers northwest of Laoag City, and it will leave the country later on this day. /Inquirer and Michelle Joy L. Padayhag
