Talisay City Mayor-elect Johnny Villaester de los Reyes vows to make himself just a text message away in case people need the city government’s help especially in times of emergencies.
Delos Reyes said he will roll out a “text the mayor” system where people could easily reach him and report situations in their communities so he can dispatch a team to help them out.
“Just send a text message and we will get those distressed and in need of help out of harm’s way wherever they may be in Talisay,” the mayor-elect said in Cebuano.
The text hotline scheme, he said, will also encourage people to report irregularities at City Hall.
“Just text the mayor and I will show them who JVR is,” he said.
To help combat criminality, the mayor-elect said he is also planning to install closed-circuit television cameras in strategic areas in the city.
Delos Reyes, who was a resource person in a media forum, moreover said his wish list for Talisay City includes the acquisition of state-of-the-art medical equipment which will be made available for free to poor patients and to roll out a job placement program to be called “Adopt Talisaynon.”
“My top priorities are for the jobs to flood the city, serving the sick, and to eliminate the dirty environment in the city due to uncollected trash,” he said.
Under his planned Adopt Talisaynon program, he said business establishments in the city will be required to have at least 40 to 50 percent of employees coming from the city.
“I happened to visit establishments in Talisay City and I have seen that out of 20 employees I had interviewed, only one came from Talisay. There was also a time that none of the employees are from Talisay,” the mayor-elect said. “It is really sad knowing that nobody cares for the Talisaynons who are jobless.”
