40 Cebu LGUs to join Run 2 Plant on June 29

A total of 40 local government units (LGUs) throughout Cebu Province will join the Run 2 Plant 4 GREENIN Philippines on June 29.

This year, the main events will be held in Naga City and Cordova town in support of the ridge (Naga City) to reef (Cordova) perspective in biodiversity enhancement.

The Naga activity will involve the planting of Narra and other tree seedlings, while Cordova will focus on mangrove planting.

Interested participants may inquire from their respective municipalities. Those from Cebu City can register either in Naga City or Cordova.

In Naga City, participants may contact Boy Hilado of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office at 4898989.

Participants in the Cordova run may contact Joy Baguio of the Department of Agriculture at 2363812 or Lily Ator of the Office of Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator at 2364194.

This fun run and planting activity is one of the programs of RAFI under its Integrated Development focus area.

It is held annually every last Saturday of June in celebration of the Environmental Month and in line with the government’s National Greening Program that seeks to grow 1.5 billion trees in 1.5 million hectares nationwide.

The Cebu Provincial government has issued Executive Order No. 10 to support the program, which is in partnership with Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) and in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
