Cavite, Laguna, Batangas residents warned of heavy rains

MANILA, Philippines – Residents in Cavite, Laguna and Batangas were warned of heavy rains and flashfloods Thursday afternoon by the state weather bureau.

In a thunderstorm advisory posted at 5:58 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that residents in those areas were told to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods.

The thunderstorm is expected to last for two hours.

Meanhwile, tropical depression Fabian maintained its strength and speed as it hovered Iba, Zambales Thursday afternoon.

Fabian was last observed 270 kilometers northwest of Iba, Zambales with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, Pagasa said.

Fabian continued to move north northwest at 11 kph. It was not forecast to make landfall but it will enhance the southwest monsoon.

“The regions of Ilocos, Central Luzon and Mimaropa will experience monsoon rains. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms,” Pagasa said.

“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail throughout the archipelago and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough,” it added.
