LAOAG CITY – An Ilocos Norte police officer has been accused of domestic abuse by his girlfriend, a niece of Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas Jr.

Police Officer 2 Roehl Tamargo was detained here after he was also caught with marijuana and an unlicensed gun when police responded to the complaint filed by Cyndee Kate Castro Agres.

Superintendent Melvin Napiloy, Laoag police director, said Agres had complained about a quarrel she had with Tamargo on Wednesday. While investigating her complaint, police found a pack of marijuana and an unregistered M16 rifle inside the couple’s home, said Napiloy.

Tamargo surrendered to the city police office.

Agres claimed it was not the first time Tamargo had hurt her. She said she previously filed complaints against the policeman but she eventually withdrew these “to give him another chance.”

“But this has been happening over and over again…. I don’t deserve it. He’s not even my husband and living with him for almost a year now has been difficult and unbearable. I’m not afraid to say this but I had been emotionally, mentally, verbally and physically abused by him,” she said.

Tamargo declined to comment on the accusations, and referred all queries to his lawyer, Ferdinand Agustin. But he denied owning the marijuana as well as the rifle.
