MANILA, Philippines – Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) workers not only received praises from President Benigno Aquino III during its 115th anniversary celebration but also got P10,000 bonus.

“In an equal society, good deeds are rewarded. If you strive hard, there is a corresponding reward for you. This is why I did not hesitate to approve a P10,000 Anniversary Bonus for each employee and official of the DPWH,” Aquino said in Filipino during his speech.

He praised DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson for the reforms he has instituted in the department that improved their services.

“Now, the old face of the DPWH is slowly being forgotten. Under the leadership of Singson, the public has gotten to know an agency that provides fast, dedicated and dependable service,” Aquino said.

“The data speaks for itself: out of 41,463 infrastructure projects lined-up in the DPWH from 2010 to 2013, around 33,095 or almost 80 percent of the total projects, have been completed as of May,” he said.

Aquino said that the formula of the DPWH to its success was the simple five Rs: “Right projects, at the right cost and right quality, and accomplished right on time with the right people.”

“This means that because of the right management, we were able to complete the projects faster and at cheaper costs [and] we stopped anomalies that siphoned off the funds of the nation,” Aquino said.

“We implemented the right process in the procurement and bidding, that’s why the savings of the DPWH reached P16.35 billion and we were successful in completing all lined-up projects,” he said.
