Trader abducted in Jolo—police

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines —A businessman was kidnapped by unidentified men in Jolo town proper Friday evening, a Philippine National Police official said.

Chief Supt. Bienvenido Latag, PNP-ARMM regional director, identified the victim as Nelson Lim, manager of Times Hardware and part owner of Plaza Panciteria.

Latag said they have yet to determine other details of the incident and the identity of the kidnappers.

Latag said he immediately instructed PNP personnel in Sulu to set up checkpoints to track the kidnappers who, he said, were forced to abandon their getaway vehicle in Barangay Liang, Patikul, Sulu.

He said a team of Marine soldiers and PNP Special Action Force personnel led by P/Supt. Antonio Freyra joined in the pursuit operations.
