TO address flooding along the national road in M.C. Briones Street in Mandaue City, the Department of Public Works and Highways is rolling out a P65-million drainage project from barangay Subangdaku to barangay Basak.
Engr. Joshua Monsanto, chief of planning section in DPWH said that a P65-million drainage project covering a four kilometer stretch of the highway will be implemented before the year ends.
Since the onset of the rainy season, however, floodings have been experience in this stretch of highway, especially in barangays Subangdaku and Tipolo, hampering vehicular traffic and putting to risk residents living in low-lying areas.
But he said that the four kilometer drainage project is not continuous but will be done portion by portion along the major thoroughfare.
“Only those drainage that needs to be fix will be covered in the P65 million drainage,” Monsanto said.
Monsanto on the other hand said that the drainage project was just recently bid out.
DPWH 6th district chief for Material and Quality Assurance Myrna Dela Cerna said the budget for this flood mitigation project will be realigned from this year’s allocation for the tri-level overpass in the same highway.
The overpass she said needs a billion pesos, and for this year only P150 million has been allocated, that why they thought of realigning it for a more urgent project.
