Mild quake sends tremors in parts of Metro Manila, Quezon province

MANILA, Philippines—A mild earthquake struck off Polillo Island on Wednesday evening, causing tremors in parts of Metro Manila and Quezon province, seismologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the magnitude 4.4 quake was some 40 kilometers northeast of Polillo Island, and struck at 7:05 p.m.

It had a depth of five kilometers and was tectonic in origin.

The earthquake was felt at Intensity 3 (people indoors felt the vibration; hanging objects swang) in Quezon City and Infanta, Quezon, while it was felt at Intensity 2 (shaking was felt by people on the upper floors of buildings) in the cities of Makati, Taguig and Muntinlupa.

In an advisory, Phivolcs said no damage was expected from the quake.  No aftershocks were also predicted.
