MANILA, Philippines—Bad weather brought by tropical depression “Emong” led to the cancellation of three flights at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Wednesday.
Cancelled were Cebu Pacific flight 5J-898 to Caticlan, Aklan and its return trip, 5J-896. Another Cebu Pacific flight from Caticlan, 5J-902, was also cancelled.
Despite the local thunderstorms in the airport’s vicinity, departures and arrivals at all NAIA terminals remained generally on time, except for several domestic flights being delayed 15 to 30 minutes.
The Manila International Airport Authority, state operator of the NAIA, reminded air travelers to be at the airport early and be mindful of the traffic conditions and floods on the major roads leading to the airport.
Meanwhile, the MIAA apologized to passengers of 19 Cebu Pacific domestic flights for the brief inconvenience of going through manual check-in last Monday morning.
The airline’s check-in system server was inadvertently halted due to a power cutoff caused by the ongoing retrofitting works at Terminal 3 that were being undertaken by the Araja Construction Corp., the MIAA said in a statement.
The airline’s check-in system was restored in 45 minutes.
Even with the onset of the rainy season, the MIAA is continuing with its rehabilitation projects for NAIA terminals.
On June 26, bids for a P20.16-million contract for the repair of the deteriorated waterproofing at the Terminal 3 building are set to be opened by the agency’s bids and awards committee.
