INDONESIA Warriors head coach Todd Purves appears to be on his way to the Petron Blaze Boosters after it was announced yesterday that his contract will not be renewed once it expires at the end of the month.
Purves, the man largely responsible for steering the Warriors to the title last year before finishing as runner-up this year, is said to be headed to the bench of the beleaguered Boosters in the role of consultant, much in the same role that former Gilas head coach Rajko Toroman was in several months ago.
“On behalf of the Indonesia Warriors organization, I would like to thank Coach Todd Purves for his service and effort to elevate Indonesian basketball,” said Handy P. Soetedjo, President Commissioner of the Indonesia Warriors in a statement that was released on the team’s website.
Purves took over the head coaching gig at Indonesia at the start of the 2011 season of the ASEAN Basketball League and compiled a record of 35-19 (win-loss) along with a 7-4 mark in the playoffs.
The development has given Purves the opportunity to be in the PBA, where reports are rampant that he will be part of the coaching shake-up of the San Miguel Corporation-owned squads.
