Whirlwind damages homes in Cebu town
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A whirlwind hit two barangays (villages) in Minglanilla town at past 2 p.m. Tuesday causing damage to at least 10 houses in the area.
Police Officer 2 Vincent Aliñabo, desk officer of Minglanilla police, said the whirlwind damaged a portion of 10 houses in Deca Homes and a house in Villa Feliza, both in Barangay Tungkil, and the gate of a feed mill company in Barangay Lower Calajoan. The two areas are located along the seashore.
Victor Selma, a resident in Barangay Calajoan, said they were all running for safety when they saw the whirlwind.
“We were working in our chapel when we heard about a waterspout that turned out to be a whirlwind and we ran in panic,” Selma recalled.
He said the whirlwind damaged the roofs of the houses and blew away the gate of a feed mill company.
The policemen and local officials of the town were still assessing the damage in the two barangays.
