CEBU Normal University psychology professor, Emmanuel Hernani, said that jealousy can be a motive for anyone to commit crime.
He said that most of the time the perpetrators are actually victims of abuse — physical or psychological.
A person who is also under the influence of liquor and at the moment having such problems can also trigger violence.
Hernani said that there are signs or symptoms of a relationship that may end up in violence.
One of the symptoms or signs is when a couple is in a constant argument over the same subject matter. Physical abuse can also be a symptom.
When this happens, a couple needs to reassess their relationship, talk sincerely and seek advice from those who know them best — it can be their parents, or the principal sponsors during their wedding.
