A suspected kidnapper was shot dead and an asset of the National Bureau of Investigation -7 (NBI-7) was wounded in an entrapment operation that resulted in a gunfight in Talisay City yesterday.
Freed from his abductors after the entrapment around 11 a.m. yesterday was Rene Boy Agraviador.
Minerva Laborada, Agraviador’s live-in partner sought the NBI’s help after he was abducted last Sunday evening along Rabaya Street in Talisay City.
A shootout ensued just outside the Cebu Evergreen Memorial Park, near the South Coastal Road after the kidnappers allegedly resisted arrest.
When the smoke cleared, Wane Tiaño lay dead, his alleged cohort Ronilo Roble handcuffed and an asset of the NBI rushed to a private hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.
Three other suspected kidnappers escaped.
Roble is now detained at the NBI office and will be facing kidnapping charges.
The NBI confiscated Tiaño’s caliber .45 pistol, the P50,000 ransom money, motorcycles used by the suspects, bonnets, helmet, and identification cards of Tiano as a member of Bantay Bayan and Unified Security Group.
NBI-7 Director Antonio Pagatpat said the agents continue to go after the other suspects.
“We have identified the other members of the group. A manhunt operation is being conducted,” he told reporters during a press conference at the NBI-7 office yesterday afternoon.
He added that the kidnapping group can be considered “as local boys who are not really expert on the crime.”/Ador Vincent Mayol, with reports from Carine M. Asutilla and Gabriel C. Bonjoc
