9-year-old boy with leukemia needs to undergo chemotherapy

Death and sickness came one after the other in two of the most important men in Teodora Dolosa’s life.
Dolosa said that seven months after she lost her husband in December 2009, their seven-year-old son Christianel Andrei Dolosa was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia.
This prompted doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) to recommend that the boy undergo a 10-cycle chemotherapy.
“We already sold most of what my husband and I were able to buy with our savings. We had to give up our stall in the market, and sell the tricycle and jeepney. We don’t know where to get the money for the remaining four cycles of chemotherapy,” Dolosa said.
According to her, her son is scheduled to undergo chemotherapy on Tuesday at PCMC but she does not know where they will get the payment for a cycle of the treatment—P40,700 for medicine alone and P11,000 for the bone marrow.
Now nine years old, Christianel has resumed schooling. He is still in Grade 1 and he attends classes only thrice a week “to prevent him from getting easily tired.”
