BANTAMWEIGHT  prospect Jundy “Pretty Boy” Maraon faltered in his first moment in the spotlight when he lost to Juan Carlos Payano of the Dominican Republic by seventh round knockout on the main event of ESPN Friday Night Fights at the Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange, New Jersey.

Maraon knocked down Payano in round three but Payano weathered the storm and downed Maraon with a left to the head in the 0:39 mark of the seventh round.

The fight was a WBA eliminator. This was Maraon’s first career loss as he dropped to 15W-1L-1D, 12 KOs. Payano moved up in the rankings as he remains unbeaten in 14 fights. He has eight wins by knockout.

This was Maraon’s second fight in the United States. Last September, he beat Ernie Marquez by third round TKO in Sta.Ynez, California. The 28-year-old Maraon is from the Braveheart boxing stable in North Cotabato. He is trained by Nonito Donaire, Sr. /correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
