MANILA – Business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan is planning to venture into power generation in the Visayas and Mindanao.
In particular, he revealed that his group is now discussing plans on putting up a coal-fired plant in Cebu and another in Mindanao.
“We will also be investing on power in Cebu. Sabay yan sa Mindanao,” Pangilinan told reporters on the sidelines of the annual stockholders’ meeting of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. where he is chairman of the board.
He however, refused to discuss further details.
“We are aware of the problem (power need) in the Visayas and Mindanao area. We would like to be part of the solution,” Pangilinan added.
Airport, hospital
The Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investment Group is in partnership with businessman John Gokongwei, in bidding for the Mactan Cebu International Airport expansion project.
Pangilinan said he is also looking for a partner for a hospital project in Cebu.
“I’m always interested in doing something in Cebu,” he said.
Asked if he is also interested to partner with any of the hospitals in Cebu, Pangilinan said: “Kung meron (If there’s any).”
“We have sent feelers. Pero hindi pa nila nafi-feel ang feelers (But they still don’t feel our feelers.),” Pangilinan said.
