THE Cebu City Marriott Hotel (CCMH) has partnered with the FMC Marine Colloids Philippines Inc. in a beach cleanup in Getafe, Bohol last June 8 in celebration of World Ocean’s Day, an international movement that highlights the need to protect the ocean.
Some 33 volunteers from FMC Cebu, suppliers and Marriott hotel associates participated in the beach cleanup in Guindacpan Island that was focused on segregating and collecting plastic material waste.
An official turnover of used plastic bottle floaters to seaweed farmers in Bohol was completed along with a boat tour to various seaweed farms in the vicinity to create awareness on seaweed farming and the need for sustainable farming techniques.
Last April 5, Cebu City Marriott Hotel turned over more than 3,000 plastic bottles to FMC Marine Colloids Philippines Inc. for its bottles-for-floaters program that seeks to replace single-use polystyrene seaweed line floaters with long-lasting plastic bottles.
The donated plastic bottles will be distributed in FMC’s seaweed farms in Bantayan Island, northern Cebu. The output represented some two-month worth of collection of used bottles in the hotel.
