MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepositioned relief goods and determined evacuation centers throughout Metro Manila in preparation for the rainy season.
DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman said this in an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990AM Friday in light of the strong rains Thursday afternoon that flooded parts of the metropolis and prompted several major schools and universities to suspend classes.
She said that DSWD is constantly coordinating with local government units to ensure that (LGUS) in areas where floods are common are prepared already.
She also said that in the Cordillera province where roads are vulnerable to landslides from the mountains during intense rains, there are already goods stored that can be used by the LGUs in case they become inaccessible.
