MANILA, Philippines — Floodwaters in several areas in Manila have subsided following the sudden heavy downpour in different parts of Metro Manila Thursday afternoon, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said.

Lowen Ante of MMDA’s Flood Control Unit said waters have subsided in R. Papa, Rizal Avenue at around 3 p.m. after floods rose to about 26 inches deep. It was earlier declared impassable to light vehicles.

In Pureza, floodwaters which rose to 8-inches deep went down around 3:20 p.m.

In Quezon City, an area along Del Monte was rendered impassable to light vehicles after waters reach 20 inches. The flood subsided around 5:50 p.m.

“The area that we are really watching over is España,” Ante said in Filipino, adding that floodwaters were already going down as the rain has already stopped.

As of posting, he said the waters were already below the knee, compared to its earlier depth of about 20 inches.

However, traffic remains problematic in some areas, Ante said, mainly due to the volume of vehicles.
