MANILA, Philippines – Several roads in Manila were flooded following a sudden downpour in different parts of Metro Manila Thursday afternoon, causing heavy traffic in many areas, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said.
Roger Nicodemus of MMDA’s Flood Control Unit said floods were recorded along España (35 to 40 centimeters), West Riverside, Del Monte Avenue (12 inches), intersection Dimasalang, Aurora Boulevard (6 inches) Lacson to Dela Fuente (13 inches); and Antipolo to Maceda (35 to 40 centimeters)
Floods were also reported from Lacson to Antipolo streets (11 inches); Pio Central northbound (8 inches); and EDSA Zamora northbound (8 inches).
In Quezon City, radio reports said gutter-deep floods on Edsa Cubao- southbound and Commonwealth Avenue snarled traffic for hours.
The Balintawak-Cloverleaf area was also flooded causing heavy traffic.
Gutter-deep flood also slowed vehicles on Edsa Magallanes in Makati.
Radio reports also said that many areas on MacArthur Highway in Valenzuela, Caloocan and Malabon were submerged in flood water to varying degrees.
“A road is rendered impassable to light vehicles when it goes above 19 inches,” Nicodemus said.
The first report on a flooded area reached their office at 1:36 p.m. which was at Maceda.
As of posting, Nicodemus said moderate rain was still pelting several areas that are under the jurisdiction of MMDA.
