At least 110 dancers who took part in the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo festival suffered stomachaches right after breakfast yesterday, health officials said.
About 80 of them suffered diarrhea and had to be treated by a medical team stationed at the Cebu International Convention Center.
The dancers, mostly high school students of Toledo City’s contingent, were expected to repeat their winning performance last night during the awarding of the winners at the CICC in Mandaue City.
The dancers were billeted at the Mandaue Central School, where they were served a packed meal of hot dog, egg and rice for breakfast from a fast-food chain.
“After they ate, they complained of stomachaches,” said Dr. Expedito Medalla, a coordinator of the Department of Health’s (DOH) Regional Health and Safety Emergency Management Service. He said they couldn’t trace the cause of the ailment. Most of the students gradually recovered in the afternoon. Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
