NYC to celebrate youth volunteerism days

IN line with the 10th anniversary celebration of the International Year of Volunteers, the National Youth Commission-Visayas, in partnership with We Spark Action Inc. will hold the Cebu Youth Volunteerism Days on Aug. 19 and 20 with the theme, “Cebuano Youth Volunteers: Sparking Change in the World.”

Around 200 youth volunteers and leaders are expected to participate in the two-day event.

The two-day event will include a forum on Aug. 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Samuel McClintock Hall, Cebu Normal University.

The forum will focus on millennium development goals and volunteerism in the Philippines. It will culminate with an exhibit highlighting the initiatives of of different volunteer organizations, non-government organizations and youth groups in Cebu.

On Aug. 20 at 7 a.m., a mangrove planting will be conducted in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City to celebrate the month for 7th millennium development goal — ensure environmental sustainability.

The event is supported by United Nations volunteers, Sangguniang Kabataan Cebu City Federation, Sangguniang Kabataan – Lapu-Lapu City Federation, Cebu Normal University and Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
