Bank camera footage vital to cop killing probe
The police now know who killed PO2 Gerlito Estremos.
Senior Supt. Mariano Natu-el Jr., acting chief of police of Cebu City, said a witness has identified the men who beat up and shot the policeman near the University of San Carlos in barangay Kamagayan last Saturday.
“We already have a background of the suspects but we could not say yet that we are 100 percent sure that it’s them,” Natu-el said in Cebuano.
He said they want to get hold of the video footage from a bank security camera which they believe would yield more information.
“We hope that the bank will no longer seek clearance from their head office in Manila since we want to immediately close the investigation,” Natu-el said.
Investigators who viewed the footage from CCTV cameras in nearby establishments said the images were blurry and were positioned in different angles.
The Police Regional Office-7 will give P153,000 to the slain policeman’s family while Malacañang has reportedly pledged P250,000. /correspondent Chito O. Aragon
