MANILA, Philippines—Although tropical storm Dante (international name: Yagi) made its way out of the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday night, parts of the country, especially the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas, are likely to experience rains on Tuesday due to a weak southwest monsoon, the state weather bureau said.

“Mimaropa (Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Bicol Region, the Visayas and the provinces of Bataan, Zambales and Pangasinan will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, or Pagasa, said.

On Monday, Pagasa declared the onset of the rainy season. The southwest monsoon is the prevailing weather system during this season.

Metro Manila cloudy

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening, Pagasa said.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail over extreme northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest with slight to moderate seas, Pagasa added.
