MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is bent on pursuing the case against the driver and the company that owns the trailer truck that crashed into the rear of the agency’s fire truck in Makati City, resulting in the death of the agency’s laborer.
Arsenio Elopre, 39, a laborer of the MMDA died Sunday night at the hospital after he sustained head injuries from the accident, which occurred along Osmeña Highway in Makati on Sunday morning.
Francis Martinez, head of the Metro Parkway Clearing Group of the MMDA, said Elopre, a worker of the agency for six years, was standing atop the MMDA firetruck when the trailer truck hit them.
“He fell from the truck and he could have severely hit his head,” Martinez said noting that the MMDA laborer was knocked unconscious by the accident.
The MMDA men were watering the plants along the highway when the accident took place.
Two other MMDA workers, the driver and a crew member, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the trailer truck identified as Feliciano Andaya Jr. and his assistant were also injured.
Martinez said the MMDA would pursue the case especially if the family of the fatality wished them to do so.
The Makati police, on the other hand, had filed complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries against the truck driver and DM Express, owner of the trucking company, in the city prosecutor’s office.
