BOGO City Cebu’s Jan Godfrey Seno clinched his first international title yesterday via the 3rd Malacca ATF Asian 14 Under Series Tennis Championship 2013.
The 13-year-old netter made the Philippines proud after surviving a three-and-a-half-hour battle against a Japanese netter, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, to grab the title.
This is Seno’s third international tournament for the year.
Seno entered the finals by dismissing fellow Filipino Michael Eala, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinals.
Seno, who is studying at the University of San Carlos, first dismissed Malaysia’s Ryan Lee Yip Heng, 6-4 7-6 (5). He next conquered Abdul Shukor Zubair, 6-1, 6-2, then in the quarterfinals, Seno outsmarted Wan Muhammad Fakhrul, 6-3, 6-2.
Seno is now on his way to Penang, Malaysia for the second leg of the series.
For his feat, Seno climbed to No. 2 in the Boys 14 Under Philippine Tennis Association rankings. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
