The Gilas Pilipinas kicked off its training camp on a rousing note as it got past Klaipedos Neptunas, 81-76, in its very first assignment in its two-week Lithianian tour last Thursday night at the Svyturio Arena in Klaipeda.
Gilas head coach Chot Reyes offered very little details on his Twitter account and kept his cards close to his chest in order to spring several surprises when the real battle commences in the Fiba Asia Men’s Championship in August in Manila.
“Tweeps, apologies for not being too detailed in the games. Hesitant to even post stats. Dami nating ginagawang bago. Mahirap na masilip,” said Reyes, who chimed in that the time they are spending together in Lithuania is paying dividends.
“Suffice it to say for now things are going well. Learning curve is steep. We enjoy the struggle, but the bond is deep,” Reyes added.
The Gilas have five more matches on this trip, which also includes one against the country’s under-20 national squad. Next up is Birstono Jazz Diremta.
The Gilas picked Group A in the Fiba Asia tilt and will face off against Jordan, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia in the preliminary round.
