MANILA, Philippines–Parts of Mindanao may experience flashfloods and landslides due to a low pressure area, the state weather bureau said on Friday.
“The Caraga region, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga Peninsula will experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in an advisory.
The low pressure area, embedded along the intertropical convergence zone, was last spotted 570 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes affecting Bicol Region, Visayas and Mindanao.
Should it intensify into a storm, it will be called “Dante”, Pagasa said.
The potential cyclone is seen to trigger the start of the rainy season.
“Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region and the rest of Visayas and of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms,” Pagasa said in a separate weather bulletin.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening, it added.
“Light to moderate winds blowing from the southeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and coming from the southeast to south over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate,” it also said.
