Suspected stolen car parts recovered

Almost P400,000 worth of suspected stolen car parts were seized yesterday afternoon from an auto shop selling secondhand supplies in Banawe, Quezon City. However, no arrests were made in the raid conducted by members of the Galas police station on a shop on Cardiz Street in Barangay Tatalon. Chief Supt. George Regis, Quezon City Police District director, said the owner of the shop, a certain Nonong, was not around when police operatives conducted the raid at around 2:30 p.m. Side mirrors, hubcaps and mag wheels with markings such as Toyota, Ford, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Honda and BMW were recovered from the shop. Supt. Norberto Babagay, Galas police station commander, said that youngsters and several men were seen stealing the car parts from parked vehicles on Araneta Avenue near a row of funeral homes in the wee hours of the morning. “Our surveillance showed that this is the place where they bring the stolen parts,” Babagay told reporters. Police are still checking if the surplus shop is directly selling these car parts to customers or if it supplies other car shops with spare parts. Julie M. Aurelio

A 26-year-old woman lost her motorcycle on Sunday night to two motorbike riders who allegedly pummeled her with their crash helmets in Manila. Geraldine de Quiroz, a resident of Grace Park in Caloocan City, lodged a complaint before the Manila Police District anti-carnapping and hijacking (MPD-ANCARH) unit to report the theft of her Yamaha Mio motorcycle (2252 UI). In her complaint, De Quiroz said that she was riding her motorcycle on Padre Burgos Avenue in Ermita, in front of the National Museum, when two men riding tandem on a motorcycle blocked her path. The men, who were armed with handguns, got off their motorcycle and allegedly grabbed her vehicle.
