Second run of storytelling training set

THE Basadours, a dynamic group of volunteer ambassadors for reading and storytelling, will hold the second run of “Storytelling 101: A Storytelling Training” tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The first storytelling training held last May 18 was attended by more than 100 participants, a proof that many people are still interested in the art of storytelling, said Basadours chairperson Melvin Legaspi.

“The overwhelming attendance last May 18 encouraged us to open another free training. This is in line with the Basadours’ vision and mission to contribute in literacy development through non-formal approaches such as storytelling,” said Legaspi.

The training on June 8 will still have librarian-storyteller, Lorna Eguia of the University of San Carlos. Eguia is at the helm of the USC School of Business and Economics Library and the American Corner Library.

“Storytelling opens many opportunities for both children and adults to explore. It makes one creative and productive,” said Eguia.

For the second run, the training will be divided into two parts. In the morning, Eguia will give an overview of the story telling process, tips and strategies in storytelling, and the benefits of storytelling. In the afternoon, the participants will get to exhibit what they have learned in a storytelling demonstration.

Storytelling 101 will take place at the Cebu City Public Library (CCPL). It is free of charge and open to the public. Only 100 slots are available. Interested participants can reserve a seat by sending their name to Denise Cristobal at (0923) 3798822.
