Koko Pimentel takes oath as senator

/ 05:18 PM August 15, 2011

MANILA, Philippines—Newly proclaimed Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III formally took his oath in the Senate on Monday, with Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile administering the oath-taking.

Family members, including his father and namesake, former Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr., and friends like Quezon Representative Lorenzo “Erin” Tanada III attended the ceremony.

Pimentel replaced former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, who resigned last August 3 amid allegations of cheating in the 2007 elections.

Just a week after Zubiri’s resignation, the Senate Electoral Tribunal proclaimed the young Pimentel as the real winner in the 2007 elections.—Maila Ager, INQUIRER.net
