Owner of Japan’s Yomiuri newspaper dies at 92

TOKYO—Toru Shoriki, owner of Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun media group, died at age 92 early Monday, reported the Yomiuri, which has the world’s biggest newspaper circulation.

Shoriki, the eldest son of the former owner, Matsutaro Shoriki, served as a World War II naval officer and worked for a paper manufacturer before joining the Yomiuri.

He died in hospital of blood poisoning.

The conservative Yomiuri Shimbun boasts a daily circulation of 13.5 million across both its morning and evening editions.

Shoriki was also the owner of the popular baseball club Yomiuri Giants.
