MANILA, Philippines – Mayon Volcano remained under alert level 1 on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
This means the famed volcano is still under “abnormal condition,” its bulletin said.
Although no magmatic eruption is imminent, Phivolcs still urged the public to refrain from going near the six-kilometer radius permanent danger zone “due to the perennial life-threatening dangers of rockfalls, landslides/avalanches at the middle to upper slope, sudden ash puffs and steam-driven or phreatic eruptions from the summit.”
“Moderate emission of white steam plumes drifting west-southwest was observed. Faint crater glow (intensity 1) was observed Tuesday night,” Phivolcs said.
An explosion by Mayon Volcano last month killed five people.
