Councilman donates supplies, classrooms in Lapu-Lapu City

Over 2,000 public school children availed free school supplies in Punta Engaño Elementary School in barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City during the opening of classes yesterday.

School children were given notebooks, intermediate pads, pencils and ballpens after the flag ceremony.

Josie Hayashi, a barangay kagawad of Punta Engaño and chairperson of the Barangay Committee on Education facilitated the donation of  the school supplies.

“Some of these school supplies are donated by my friends in Japan,” said Hayashi, a Filipina who married a Japanese.

Cerila Degolacion, rincipal if Punta Engano Elementary School said, they are short  two classrooms.

Degolacion said they have more than 1,600 pupils with 40-50 school kids in each classroom.

The Punta Engano High School has a population of 600 students with another two classroom shortage, said Angelita Pagobo, high school principal.

The problem of classroom shortage however will be reduced by half with Hayashi set to donate two classroom, one each for elementary and high school. /Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
