MANILA, Philippines – Education officials on Monday inspected school buildings in the town of Carmen in North Cotabato where classes have been suspended due to a Magnitude 5.7 earthquake, North Cotabato Governor Emmylou Mendoza said.
In an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM, Mendoza said that officials from the Department of Education were in town to assess the damage caused by the earthquake to their school buildings.
“We are inspecting damaged school buildings. We do not want classes to be delayed but we want to make sure that the students are safe,” she said.
Local officials feared further damages to its infrastructure as North Cotabato continues to experience aftershocks, added Mendoza.
