Cash transfer recipients reminded to send children to school

BENEFICIARIES of the national government’s Pangpatawid Pamilyang Pilipino Programa  or 4 Ps were warned to continue sending their children to school lest they be delisted from the program.

Aileen Lariba, 4P’s coordinator of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), said other agencies like the Department of Education (DepEd) will evaluate whether these families comply with the requirements.

The beneficiaries’ number 236,000 households including 118,000 in Cebu province and 5,000 in Cebu City alone.

Beneficiaries receive P500 a month for health and nutrition and P300 a month per child aged 14 years old and below.

A family can receive a maximum of P1,400. Lariba said a partnership with SM Mall consists of the management funding the DSWD’s urban farming program with assistance from the Department of Agriculture.

The Cebu City government is said to have committed a lot to the program. “Lectures on vegetable gardening will be held every Friday and the beneficiaries will harvest whatever’s planted,” Lariba said.

She said the DSWD will resume its cash allocation after the election ban is lifted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman said only their office is authorized to delist beneficiaries who failed to comply with the program’s requirements. Correspondent Renan Alangilan
