It may rain Monday, opening of classes, says Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines—The weather bureau expects generally good weather to prevail during the opening of classes in Luzon on Monday although it warned of possible rainshowers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms as an effect of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

Weather forecaster Jun Galang said the ITCZ over southern Mindanao would most likely bring rain to the Visayas and Mindanao.

Galang added that isolated light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon were to be expected specifically in the afternoon. The skies in Luzon, he said, would be partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy.

In its special weather outlook for the opening of classes, Pagasa said the ITCZ would be the dominant weather system over Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao, and that light to moderate winds blowing from the east to southeast would prevail over Luzon and the Visayas, while winds coming from the east to northeast would prevail over Mindanao.—Jeannette I.
