Valenzuela’s new school building can accommodate up 4,500 students

MANILA, Philippines — Students at Dalandanan National High School in Valenzuela City will no longer have to jostle for space in congested classrooms as they go back to school Monday.

The city government has inaugurated a new school building to accommodate students in both the morning and afternoon shifts.

The new Dalandanan National High School building has four floors and 50 classrooms, which can accommodate 4,500 students.

Maxima Carlos, school principal, said that before the building was finished, classrooms in the high school were severely congested.

“Before this, we had only 34 classrooms in four buildings which could barely accommodate our student population of more than 4,800. A class would have as many as 60 to 75 students,” she said.

With the new building, the biggest high school building in the city, Carlos said that students would be able to study in comfort.

Data from the city government place the city’s classroom-to-student ratio at 44 students per classroom.  This is less congested than the National Capital Region’s average of 74 students per classroom.

A total of 35,567 high school students enrolled in the city during the last school year.
