MANILA, Philippines—No storm is expected when classes open nationwide on Monday but students are advised to bring an umbrella or raincoat anyway.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will prevail over most of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, the weather bureau said Saturday.

In a special weather outlook for the opening of classes, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it did not expect a tropical cyclone to develop near the Philippines in the coming days.

But Pagasa officer in charge Vicente Malano said the inter-tropical convergence zone would continue to be the dominant weather system affecting Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the southeast will prevail over Luzon, with winds coming from the southwest to the west over the rest of the country, he added. DJ Yap
