MANILA, Philippines—The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) operations stopped early Sunday after a ‘taong-grasa’ (scavenger) was reportedly sideswept by one of its trains passing the Magallanes station in Makati City, radio reports said Sunday.
The unidentified male scavenger reportedly died on the spot.
The MRT management, in an interview, said they didn’t know how the scavenger got into the station’s premises.
They admitted there are no CCTV cameras installed in the said station.
Based on the reports, the scavenger was seen lying on the railroad tracks and it was too late for the coming train to notice him.
Authorities investigating the case said the man could have committed suicide.
The MRT management said the operations continue between North Avenue in Quezon City and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City. The rest are put on stand-by.
