VISITING squads St. John’s Institute (SJI) of Bacolod and the Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI) along with the University of San Carlos (USC) kept the lead in the standings with impressive wins in their respective games heading to the homestretch of the CYBL VISMIN Goodwill Games 2013 at the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Gym in Canduman, Mandaue City, yesterday.
In the Small Basketeers of the Philippines division (SBP), SJI downed USC, 58-49 and then added Don Bosco to their list of victims to hike its record to 5-0 (win-loss) in Group B.
In other results in the same class, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo beat Xavier University (XU), 56-44 while the NOODA Warriors of Bacolod dumped St. Benedict’s, 56-28. Later, XU recovered and defeated the Warriors, 38-35.
In Group A action, AdI scored its fourth straight win, 46-43, over XU to claim first place in the group.
Group A standings have AdI on top at 4-0, followed by SHS-Ateneo (3-1), XU (2-2), Warriors (1-3) and St. Benedict’s (0-4). SJI of Bacolod topped Group B at 5-0, followed by USC (4-1), CEC (3-2), UV (2-3), Don Bosco (1-4) and USJ-R (0-5). The top four teams of each group move on to the quarterfinals.
In the Passerelle division, USC scored its fifth straight win with a 56-37 dominating win over AdI in a battle of undefeated teams. Earlier, USC dropped SJI, 55-41. AdI recovered from the loss by beating USJ-R 57-32 to keep its hold of second place.
In other Passerelle games, SHS-Ateneo dropped Don Bosco A, 45-25, and Don Bosco B, 57-13. CEC defeated Don Bosco B, 61-25, and Don Bosco A, 56-38, to maintain its third place standing. SJI tripped USJ-R, 80-42.
USC sits at the top of the standings at 5-0, followed by AdI (4-1), CEC (4-1), SHS-Ateneo (3-2), Don Bosco A (2-3), SJI (2-3), Don Bosco B (0-5) and USJ-R (0-5). /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
