Patient found hanging dead in Cebu City hospital

An ailing woman was found hanging dead inside a private room of a Cebu City hospital where she was confined.

The family of the woman requested the police to withheld the victim’s name.

The woman was confined at the North General Hospital in barangay Talamban for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

According to Wikipedia, SLE is a systemic autoimmune disease (or autoimmune connective tissue disease) that can affect any part of the body. As is the case of  autoimmune diseases, the immune system attacks the body’s cells and tissue, resulting in inflammation and tissue damage.

The woman was admitted to the hospital last Aug. 9.

According to the police, it was the woman’s husband who was watching her in the hospital.

Past 6 a.m. last Saturday, the husband decided to go home to attend to their 10-year-old son who was having a fever.

The couple’s daughter was supposed to replace the husband but she had yet to arrive when the husband left.

The resident doctor, Jenny Canton, checked the woman’s room but found no one inside.

The doctor proceeded to the other rooms.

After a few minutes, the doctor went back to the victim’s room and still didn’t find anyone inside.

The doctor then checked the restroom and was shocked to see the woman suspended from the ceiling with a rope tied around her neck.

The doctor called hospital workers who untied the victim.

Hospital staff tried but failed to revive the woman.

Police said the woman had no external injuries.

The incident will be investigated further, said police.
